Stop smoking is the easiest for a hypnotherapist but you can do that your self with self hypnosis. Just put your self in a very relaxed state with deep breathing. Say to your self, I’d rather breath than smoke, take a deep breath and hold to the count of five and slowly release. Visualize having a funeral for your brand of cigarettes. Mourn the loss of your friend and then get on with your life with out your deceased friend. It may sound silly but it works. The subconscious mind really likes silly. Try it—–what have you got to lose?

Ask your doctor to recommend one.
I too am sceptical but some people have very good results with it. I think it will make a difference if you really belive it will!

If you are based in the UK try checking out the GHR
    http://www.general-hypnotherapy-register.com/

    or the NCH
    http://www.hypnotherapists.org.uk/

Call all of the ones you like the sound of. Most importantly, get your bf to speak to the therapists and let him decide which one he feels comfortable with.

I work as clinical hypnotherapist and have helped many people free themselves from this habit. The ones I wasn;t successful with have one thing in common….they didn’t want to give up! Hypnosis is not mind control and you cannot be made to do anything you do not want to do. Most of those who didn’t stop were pressured into coming by their partner! Make sure your bf wants to give up for HIMSELF and not to just keep you happy.

Hypnotherapy is extremely effective as a smoking cessation technique and their are literally hundreds of hypnotic approaches to helping you stop. You can try the one posted further up the page, it may help your bf, who knows?

    Whatever happens, good luck!

Quiting smoking needs a lot of willpower-the person wants badly to quit as well. Trying hypnotherapy as an aid is not a bad thing, though results will vary from person to person. Nicontine patches and chewing tobacco replacement gums can also be an intermediate help. For a list of hypnotherapists in the UK try
http://www.hypnos.info/pages/find.html , though your doctor should be able to guide you to a reputable one as well as guide your boyfriend in the right direction regarding giving up smoking. Talk to the doctor first.

Simply log onto Embody – http://www.embody.uk.net . It’s one of the largest governing bodies for Complementary Health Practitioners. I’m sure you’ll find one there. you cannot be a member without legitimate qualifications and insurance to practise.

Yes I have used it, and it has worked for me, it is especially good for stopping smoking, only 2 sessions, it is expensive though but well worth it, get out sites online and they give good descriptions of registered hypnotherapist’s, good luck!

    look in yellow pages

  9. damari_8 Says:

The yellow pages, phone and ask to see their registration, make sure you see the person’s name. I tried to stop smoking with hypnotherapy but it didn’t work for me, although it did work for a friend of mine. At the moment I’m doing quite well with acupuncture (once a week for 5 weeks) I used to smoke 25 a day and I’m down to 5!

Check for qualifications, I would add the BSCH to the list from other respondents. Hypnotherapy is about 30 times more effective than just being told to give up by a doctor, it can be backed by self hypnosis but the primary treatment is best done by a third party therapist (hetero-hypnosis). Stopping smoking is a good thing to do – good luck to him.

  11. Rozzy Says:

In the UK, look in Yellow Pages and particularly in the corporate boxes. Websites for organisations such as NCH, GHR, IAH and several others will have information about qualifications. It is a good idea to phone several therapists and ask them to send their brochure in which they should give you information about qualifications and experience as well as how much they charge. For smoking cessation, some do a ‘package’ of e.g. two sessions and a tape or CD for £x.
    Good luck ~RJS

National register of hypotherapists and Psycotherapists (NRHP) can be found in yellow pages and probally have a web site. If your boyfriend has the right mind set it should work also try accupressure or good old will power.
