Comments for Hypnosis - What you need to Know!

Hypnosis is a relaxed state where someone is more open to suggestions. It feels familiar because we actually do it so often. We enter and leave hypnotic states constantly throughout the day. The act of reading, day dreaming, or watching TV with focused attention are all light trance states. Walking down the sidewalk or waiting for the subway, many people are in a trance state. Just look at them. Driving on a highway may make the trance state more easily noticed.

I think that hypnosis can be achieved only by a willing participant and only on a level that you can remain aware of consciously. For example, on TV shows, a hypnotist will give the command "cheese" and the subject immediately acts like a mouse. Then a clapping of hands and he is normal again...well it is not like that. If you are under the influence of hypnotic drugs, the effects are stronger and you are more easily persuaded to act in some variant manner, but your basic principles will take over if the hypnotist suggests that you do something that you find wrong or that you fear. But as for a tool to condition the mind and emotional response to daily problems it can be a helpful therapy. You will always be the one holding the strings in your own show, and if you want to change then do not seek the truth anywhere but your heart, which I know to be one of gold no matter how hurt or angry you are.

One more thing: how is your writing coming along? I swear that you could be a great poet if you want to be, and at the least it is a good outlet for angst.

Curious

Join our forum & you can ask what you like about hypnosis, see profile.

Hypnosis is excellent for anxiety.

It is impossible for a hypnotherapist to take over anyone, a hypnotic state is a natural one simply induced by a therapist. The subconscious mind protects us at all costs, so it is impossible for anyone to control, you are in charge at all times.

National register of hypotherapists and Psycotherapists (NRHP) can be found in yellow pages and probally have a web site. If your boyfriend has the right mind set it should work also try accupressure or good old will power.

In the UK, look in Yellow Pages and particularly in the corporate boxes. Websites for organisations such as NCH, GHR, IAH and several others will have information about qualifications. It is a good idea to phone several therapists and ask them to send their brochure in which they should give you information about qualifications and experience as well as how much they charge. For smoking cessation, some do a 'package' of e.g. two sessions and a tape or CD for £x.
Good luck ~RJS

Check for qualifications, I would add the BSCH to the list from other respondents. Hypnotherapy is about 30 times more effective than just being told to give up by a doctor, it can be backed by self hypnosis but the primary treatment is best done by a third party therapist (hetero-hypnosis). Stopping smoking is a good thing to do - good luck to him.

The yellow pages, phone and ask to see their registration, make sure you see the person's name. I tried to stop smoking with hypnotherapy but it didn't work for me, although it did work for a friend of mine. At the moment I'm doing quite well with acupuncture (once a week for 5 weeks) I used to smoke 25 a day and I'm down to 5!
