Understanding Narcolepsy - Excessive Daytime Sleepiness
It is common for people to leave with a certain disorder without being properly diagnosed. This would lead to a lot of confusion and stress as the person gets affected by the symptoms without knowing how to deal with them and what the cause is. This article will tackle one of those rare disorders called narcolepsy. I will provide a quick outlook and I also offer some few tips on how to deal with it.
Narcolepsy is a misunderstood type of sleeping disorder mainly because its symptoms can easily be misdiagnosed. In essence Narcolepsy is a type of sleeping disorder whereby the narcoleptic gets sleep attacks during the day - often called excessive daytime sleepiness disorder (EDS).
Here is what happens, the narcoleptic or person suffering from narcolepsy will feel helplessly sleepy during the day and might fall asleep right there and then. This is basically a neurological based condition, which affects wakefulness and sleepiness of the body.

Although a person can manage to live with narcolepsy, it can be fatal incases where the sleep attack or cataplexy comes at a time where the narcoleptic is driving, or holding a child. While research is still on going to fully understand this sleep disorder, sometimes even without these detrimental effects, Narcolepsy can impair performance in school or at work.
Now let me quickly go over some few behavioral therapy activities to be practiced in order to contain narcolepy. I do, however, strongly recommend that you visit a doctor for a full diagnosis.
Do not take drugs that will block you from sleeping. By this I mean any form of drug, prescribed or non-prescribed.
Take Short naps during the day: Taking short scheduled naps during the day can do wonders for some narcoleptics as it may help control sleepiness. These naps can last between 30 to 30 minutes.
The food you eat can affect the intensity of narcolepsy. So eat properly and exercise regularly. Avoid eating two to three hours before you go to bed.
Make sure that your bedroom is comfortable, quiet and free from light such as computer or TV light. You should eliminate any form of distractions.
Avoid eating just before bed time especially food that can make it hard for you to fall asleep. This include, Caffeine in coffee, chocolate, and certain soft drinks and teas.
Also avoid alcohol and tobacco at all times especially before bedtime

A vacation would be one of the best stress relievers. But, not one that you are forced to go on or take. Rather, one that you would find relaxing and interesting enough to get your mind off the same old-same old. Not everybody can do what they want or go where they want. When you exercise, you can get a boost of confidence knowing you’re the best you can be.
Laughter is the best medicine. Physiologically the body improves with a state of happiness. Laughter helps you to relax and reduce high levels of anxiety. So keep laughing for stress relief. Really, good honest, clean humor, which admittedly is hard to find, is the best.
Try shooting. Photography, that is! You’ll be amazed at the shots you can catch and if you invest in some software to crop and fix the photos, you’ll become the family pro. The nice thing about digital cameras is you only have to print what you want. Very relaxing and a boost of self confidence.
Whatever you eventually choose as your preferred stress relief tip, remember to always find time to do it. Don’t get so busy you don’t take time for yourself.

Ulcers Can Cause back Pain
In times of chronic back pain one considers that “Do Ulcers Cause back Pain?” A simple answer to this anxious thought is ‘yes’, a peptic ulcer is a probable cause of back pain.
An ulcer is a term that defines an open sore, lesion or break in the skin or in a mucous membrane. The thin tissue that covers the inner surface of body openings like the lining of the stomach and intestines is a mucous membrane. However when people generally refer to ulcers, they usually mean the peptic ulcer that occurs in the upper digestive system. The digestive system is made up of the esophagus, stomach, duodenum and intestines. Ulcers that occur in the stomach are referred to as gastric ulcers, and likewise there are duodenal ulcers and esophageal ulcers. 80% of peptic ulcers are Duodenal ulcers.
There are various symptoms of ulcers. Most common symptoms are intermittent and irritating pain in the stomach which could transmit to other areas like back or shoulder blades, indigestion, heartburn, gas, bloating, appetite loss and nausea.
Back in the day it was considered by physicians that excessive stress causes ulcers. The theory was based on the fact that excessive stress increases the production of hydrochloric acid. This acid is powerful enough to hurt the protective mucous lining of the stomach causing an ulcer. Although this theory is still accepted by many physicians, currently it is also established that bacterial infection is the primary cause for ulcers in more than 70 to 80% of the cases.
Bacteria ‘Helicobacter Pylori’ is the most common bacteria known to cause gastric ulceration. These bacteria can burrow into the mucous layer of stomach and produce inflammation. Excessive acidic juices generated by stomach due to spicy foods are capable of burning the lining of digestive tract and thereby damaging the digestive system. Extreme physical and emotional stress is likely to aggravate an existing ulcer, though it is normally not considered as a root cause for ulcer.
Besides infection, use of non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or NSAIDs which is the acronym can also trigger ulcers. These NSAIDs are rampantly used by people as pain killers for headaches, sore muscles, menstrual cramps and other similar complaints. Aspirin, ibuprofen and acetaminophen belong to this family of NSAIDs and excessive use of such drugs may prove to be detrimental to stomach lining and cause ulcers. Over consumption of Alcoholic beverages and heavy smoking habits could pose a risk of damaging the mucosal protection.
As a first step towards a diagnosis of ulcers, the doctor first inquires as to the symptoms the patient is having. Besides these symptoms, The physician would look over the patient’s medical history for a family history of ulcers or stomach cancers, frequent alcohol consumption, smoking, patients age, weight loss, repeated nausea or vomiting are also taken into consideration. Also incidences of back pain, history of using anti inflammatory drugs or other NSAIDS are looked into. Apart from looking into the symptoms and medical history, endoscopy is the latest method by which a minimal invasive diagnostic medical procedure. It is also accepted as the best diagnostic methods for ulcers. An endoscope is a narrow tube with a light and tiny camera at its end used to study the patient’s digestive system. When it’s inserted down the patient’s throat the doctor can start to examine the stomach lining and duodenum. An endoscope can also carry scissors in to take tissue samples of the mucous membrane for further examination of potential stomach cancer.
Imaging techniques are frequently relied on since not many patients are comfortable with the endoscope. During the procedure the patient is asked to drink a fluid of Barium. Barium is opaque and transparent to x-rays. The x-ray image of the patient’s digestive system can highlight abnormalities such as ulcers that may be present where the opaque substance appears as a white patch on the x-ray image. Many symptoms of ulcers can be treated with drugs easily purchased over the counter that are used to subdue the pain, nausea or general discomfort caused by ulcers.
Ulcers and especially Peptic Ulcers do cause severe back pain. Such pain is likely to happen immediately after eating when some one is suffering from ulcers.

Most of the time it is unusual for a person to suffer disc problems that are located in the middle and upper back, but thoracic back pains can at times be very painful and can be caused by a number of different medical conditions. When you feel pain such as this, it usually means there’s something going on in your insides and the pain is the only way for your body to alert you to the problem.

A digestive track problem like constipation can also cause a cute thoracic back pain. Another problem could also be a cardiac problem that is transferring that pain to the middle of the back. Sometimes it may be caused by the upper back muscles being used in an odd fashion or can even be a result of bad posture in the center of the lumbar region, or lower back the middle and the upper back can also be affected.
A few remedies can work really well. Stretching exercises can reduce thoracic back pain. However the root cause of the pain should be first determined as this is of the utmost importance. How To Make A Great Salad Nicoise
The Salad Nicoise is more commonly called a Nicoise Salad and is pronounced “Ni-suaz”. This particular salad originally comes from a region in the South of France called Nice and involves a number of different raw ingredients the details of which will provided for you later on in this article. Most authentic Salad Nicoise’s use only raw ingredients there are some restaurants who make this salad and will include rice, pasta, potatoes, cheese and cooked vegetables in theirs.
But the real beauty of this salad is that not only is relatively easy to prepare and make but the way in which the ingredients are presented. Not only does it contain lots of color and texture but it is full of flavors which combine well together. Below we list the ingredients as well as provide step by step instructions so that you can have a go at making this particular salad for yourself.
The ingredients you will need in order to make a Salad Nicoise to serve four people are as follows:- 1. 10 large and ripe tomatoes 2. 1 clove of garlic 3. 1 large cucumber 4. 1 green and one red pepper 5. 6 spring onions 6. 12 anchovy fillets which are in olive oil 7. 125g of black olives 8. 4 eggs that have been hard boiled 9. 90ml of olive oil (extra virgin is best) 10. 1 tablespoon of red wine vinegar 11. Juice of one lemon 12. Assorted salad leaves (cos, rocket etc) plus a small amount of fresh Basil. Now let us go through the steps you will need to take in order to make your Salad Nicoise.
Step 1 - take the tomatoes, cut this into six pieces each, place them in a dish, and sprinkle a little salt over them. Allow them to stand for around hour as this allows any juices to drain out of them. Whilst preparing the tomatoes you can put the eggs on to cook. It is best if you allow around 5 minutes once the water is boiling to ensure that the eggs are hard boiled.
Step 2 - Now take the cucumber and cut this in half along the entire length of it. Once cut in half you now need to scoop out as many of the seeds inside then you can slice up the cucumber. However you should not either peel the cucumber of slice it too thinly. Then after preparing the cucumber you can move on to preparing the peppers and the spring onions. Both of the peppers and spring onions should be very thinly sliced.
Step 3 - Take the garlic clove remove the outer layer and then cut this in half and rub them around the inside of your salad bowl. If you are able to use a wooden bowl for placing the salad in.
Step 4 - Once you have rubbed the bowl with the garlic clove now you can start to take the ingredients and place them into it. First off get the salad leaves (which you will have washed and removed any excess water from) and lay these in the bottom of the bowl(s). Next on top of the leaves you lay the tomatoes followed by the eggs which have been cut into quarters. After the eggs you now need to lay on the slices of cucumber, spring onions and peppers and then on top of these you lay the anchovy fillets before you scatter over the olives.
Step 5 - The final step you need to take in order to make a great tasting Salad Nicoise is to prepare the dressing. So into a jug or jar place the olive oil, red wine vinegar and lemon juice and blend well together and also season it with a little freshly ground black pepper and salt. Once combined you just very gently drizzle this dressing over the top of the salad and before taking to the table to serve roughly tear up some of the basil leaves and scatter these over the top of it. Now take it to the table and enjoy.

Are These The Causes For Sudden Acne Breakouts
There has been constant debate regarding the role of diet in causing acne. Studies have shown that persons sensitive to the hormone progesterone should avoid all diary products, because they can cause acne flare-up. These studies point to male hormones found in foods such as wheat germs, organ meats, and diary products. Will these symptoms last for the rest of life?
Iodine rich foods such as shellfish, spinach and cabbage and peanuts can also cause problems. If you are an acne sufferer it’s certainly worth abstaining from certain foods for a while to see if there is any improvement.
If you have a special sensitivity to a food, small amounts of anything - even soft drinks, chocolates will not make a major difference.
Another acne myth is that it is caused by dirt. However, since it is usually associated with oily skin, washing your face with soap and hot water three or four times a day assists in controlling oiliness. Many physicians believe the only way to decrease bacteria on the skin’s surface is by using an antiseptic soap. Also important is frequent shampooing because your hair is often excessively oily.
Acne comes second only to premature ageing in the charts for skin disease. If you are a sufferer you will likely be aware that flare ups will always occur before a special event. You can put all the blame on testosterone produced by the adrenal glands which are trying to help you deal with the stress of that interview, wedding or important presentation.

These should be used for at least six weeks to discover if it is working for you unless there is an adverse reaction or sensitivity. Follow the instructions and give it a chance.
There are more drastic medical procedures available that can clear blackheads, whiteheads and cysts. It won’t prevent the next batch though. Never squeeze or pick acne. This will only aggravate the condition and could leave scarring. To try and lessen the chance of those lesions appearing in the first place, do not use greasy cream to clean your face - antibacterial soap and water are best.
